The Viceroyalty of Peru was the most important of the Spanish Empire and Lima was its capital. In its Historic Center, the architecture and urban layout of that period stand out, in old streets with colonial mansions with Moorish-style balconies. This is Peru’s grandest museum and houses the Estela Raymondi and the Tello Obelisk monuments, two important carved stone pieces dating back to the Formative period 1000 years B.C.
