Day 1: Lima /Iquitos / Nauta/ Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

Yanayacu-Pucate River Basin (Internal Zone of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve)

Unforgettable experience in one of the richest areas in biodiversity that still exist on the planet. Not only will you have the opportunity to approach the most representative species of the Amazon, but you will also penetrate their domains. You will also learn how the riverside population that lives in the perimeter of the reserve carries out conservation and sustainable development programs to keep one of the last great flooded tropical forests unchanged.


  • (am) transfer from hotel to Lima airport.
  • (am) flight Lima/Iquitos.
  • In the morning, arrival in Iquitos, reception at the airport and transfer to our operations office in Iquitos. Brief orientation on the main tourist attractions of the city.
  • Transfer to the pier in the city of Nauta (approximately 100 km/2 hours from Iquitos).
  • Navigation upstream in the Marañón River to the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve (80 km SW of Nauta/approximately 2 hours and a half).
  • Observation of a great variety of birds along the way, including herons, hawks, red herons, jacanas, parrots and parakeets. It is also possible to observe dolphins in the river.
  • Box Lunch on board.
  • Visitor registration at the reserve surveillance post.
  • Arrival at the community of Arequipa where the first camp will be set up.
  • Short walk through the nearby town.
  • Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve


  • Observation of the birds that leave their nests in search of food in the river, among them cotingas, macaws, parrots, the royal vulture and probably the Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja).
  • Breakfast at the camp.
  • Excursion to the Shansho Cocha lagoon (1 hour and a half) following the course of the Yanayacu-Pucate River. Along the way you can see giant trees such as the Lupuna (Ceiba pentandra), the Capirona, the Capinurí (Heliocóstilis scabra) and also birds such as the Toucan (Pteroglossus), Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao), Yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna), Heron Great White (Egreta alba), Kingfisher (Chloroceryele).
  • Sighting of the Hoatzin or "Shansho" bird (Opysthocomus hoazin), which feeds on the shores of the lagoon.
  • Return to camp and lunch.
  • Excursion through the Yanayaquillo Gorge to observe friar monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis), "pichicos" (Saguinus fuscicollis) and sloths (Bradypus variegatus).
  • Dinner at the camp.
  • Overnight stay.


Day 3: Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve


  • Breakfast at the camp.
  • Morning excursion to the Quebrada de Japon and the Yanta Lagoon where you can observe birds and fish. Among the ichthyological species that abound in the reserve are the piranha (Serrasalmus), the tarpon (Brycun americus), the sardine (Triportheus), among others.
  • Lunch at the camp.
    < li>Evening canoe ride to appreciate the landscapes of the reserve at sunset.
  • Dinner at the camp.
  • Overnight stay.

Day 4: Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve


  • Early breakfast before breaking camp.
  • Navigation through the Yanayacu-Pucate where it will be possible to see pink dolphins (Inia geoffrenssis), "taricayas" as they are known locally river turtles (Podocnemis unifilis) and probably River Wolves (Ptenerura brasiliensis).
  • Arrival at the place where the next camp will be set up.
  • Lunch on the banks of the river contemplating the splendid landscape.
  • Recognition walk to appreciate the exquisite flora and fauna of this area.
  • Dinner at the camp.
  • Overnight stay.

    Day 5: Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve / Nauta / Iquitos / Lima


    • Breakfast at the camp.
    • Return to the city of Nauta and land transfer to Iquitos.
    • Transfer to the airport at the appropriate time.
    • Flight Iquitos / Lima.
    • Arrival in Lima and transfer to the hotel.
